When you’re planning ahead for TWO on the way, you may be stressed about the timeline for hosting your baby shower for twins. Twin pregnancy can throw more curveballs, so we’re here to share insights from twin parents who’ve been there!
When I was pregnant with my twins, I was lucky enough to have my mom and sister-in-law help me plan my twin baby shower. But I vividly remember struggling at first to pinpoint the best date for the shower.
My twin pregnancy had a few additional complications (like high blood pressure and Twin B with a congenital lung birth defect just to name a few). Plus, I knew that the majority of twin pregnancies tend to deliver early.
Long story short, I knew in my gut that it was probably best to err on the side of too early than too late. At one point though, I was almost tempted to push my shower back by a few weeks (making it be at 34.5 weeks instead of 31.5 weeks) due to wanting to accommodate my own sister coming in from out of town. I even had to get a little stern with my mom in holding firm to my date and telling her that I couldn’t plan my shower around when it was convenient for my sister.

Thank goodness I didn’t give into that temptation and held steady to the date I preferred. Had I pushed the shower back those two days, I would’ve literally delivered my twins only a day or two after the shower. (Which would have meant zero time to actually set all the gear up and feel ready).
But don’t just take my word for it! Keep reading to see what other twin parents have to say about when to have your twin baby shower!
We recently asked the Twiniversity community:
How many weeks along were you when you had your baby shower for twins? And did you feel like that was good timing, too early, or too late?
Here’s what our biggest fans had to say:
“25 weeks. I feel like it was good timing. I felt okay physically and I had time to buy stuff after.”
“28 weeks and the twins came 3 days shy of 33 weeks—so perfect timing for the shower.”
“I actually had 2! First one at 27 weeks with my husband’s family and that felt like good timing. Second one was with my family at 32 weeks and I wish I had done it sooner. I was super uncomfortable at that point, and I was also a little anxious that I wasn’t going to make it to then!”
“Missed mine. It was scheduled for 30 weeks.”
“20 weeks.”
“26 and 28 the first time with twins. 32 weeks this time (my second go-round with twins).”
