The Best Baby Sock Monitor for Twins and Should You Even Use One? https://www.twiniversity.com/best-baby-sock-monitor-for-twins/ Tue, 10 Jun 2025 04:01:00 +0000 https://www.twiniversity.com/?p=189566 Considering getting a smart sock baby monitor for your twins? Read on to learn about the best baby sock monitors out there and experiences that other twin parents have had using them! Do you ever wonder how your own parents or grandparents raised their children?  In the age of technology, there are so many things that are designed to make life easier and safer with raising our newborn and infant babies.   Technology like continually advancing car seats and even disposable diapers. My mom reminds me that my grandma had hand washed cloth diapers for all the years she had children. And she raised 6!   But car seats and diapers are probably not the first thing you think of when it comes to baby technology.  Instead you probably think of all the things that blink and sync, like one of the latest and greatest to the infant tech world: the smart sock baby monitor!  If you’ve never heard of this, you’re probably thinking what!?  I’m telling you, the world of baby tech is wild!  Smart sock baby monitors are a whole thing.  The question then becomes why would you want to have a smart sock baby monitor? And if you do use one, what is the best baby sock monitor for you as a twin parent? So let’s get into answering all those questions on your mind! And be sure to read all the way to the end to hear about real experiences from other twin parents and their take on sock monitors for their twins.  Disclaimer: All content on this website, including medical opinions and any other health-related information, is for informational purposes only and should not be considered to be a specific diagnosis or treatment plan for any individual situation. Use of this site and the information contained herein does not create a doctor-patient relationship. Always seek the direct advice of your own doctor in connection with any questions or issues you may have regarding your own health or the health of others. What is a smart sock baby monitor? And how does it work? Smart sock baby monitors are like monitors with additional bells and whistles.  If you’re expecting now in 2025, I’m going to guess your parents monitored you with an audio-only monitor. Or perhaps they had the first generation of video monitors.   Video and audio are great to keep an eye on your child because if something happens, you’ll hear and see what’s going on in that room. But smart sock baby monitors are next level.  They allow you to track even more.  The smart “sock” is worn on your baby’s foot (just like a sock). And the sock has built-in technology that sends messages to the monitor (and ultimately to you). Some of these sock monitors can track sleep patterns and others may track heart rates and oxygen levels.  Whether you decide to use one of these smart sock monitors or not, it’s important to realize that they are not a replacement for any other safe-sleep practices that can help prevent SIDS (like laying the baby on their back). And they are in no way, shape, or form meant to diagnose or prevent any sort of disease or health issues for your baby. Instead, smart sock baby monitors are a supplemental wellness device. And of course, it’s best to consult your pediatrician or other medical professional before using one for your babies.  What are the pros and cons of using a baby sock monitor for your twins? As with all technology, there are those who love the monitor and others who are against their use. So let’s take a quick look at some of the potential benefits and drawbacks: What are the cons of using a smart sock baby monitor? One common argument against smart sock baby monitors is that they may increase anxiety for the parent because they make you feel like you’re always on alert. Like having too much information to worry about.  For example, one pediatric clinic pointed to an incident where the baby’s heart rate dropped a little when they were asleep, which prompted the parents to take the infant to the ER.  They explain that the heart rate can naturally drop during sleep, and so devices like this could cause unnecessary anxiety for the parents as well as unnecessary visits to the emergency room.   Another argument on the opposite end of the spectrum is the fear that smart sock monitors could cause parents to be too lax when watching their kids because they may over-rely on the monitor.  What are the potential benefits of using a smart sock baby monitor? While one argument for using a smart sock baby monitor is that they cause too much anxiety for parents, one argument for using them is that they may actually reduce a parent’s anxiety. This could be especially true for twin parents who have premature babies or who have had an extended NICU stay and are wanting to have extra vigilance with their fragile newborns at home.  When you’re in the NICU for a long time, you may get used to having all the extra monitoring on your twins (like the pulse oximeter and the heart rate monitor). In some cases, using a smart sock monitor at home could help twin parents make a smoother transition from the NICU to home.  But again, even in these cases, a smart sock baby monitor should not be used in any way as a replacement for other safe-sleep practices and overall vigilance with your newborn twins.  Now that we know all about smart socks baby monitors, should you decide (with the recommendation of your pediatrician) to use one, what are the best baby sock monitors out there?   Best baby sock monitor options for your twins Owlet Dream Sock The Owlet Dream Sock is a sock you may have seen around stores or heard about from a friend like me.  The Owlet Dream Sock pairs with your phone and allows you to monitor your twins’ heart… Continue Reading The Best Baby Sock Monitor for Twins and Should You Even Use One?

Best Preemie Clothes for Your Twin Newborns https://www.twiniversity.com/best-preemie-clothes/ Tue, 18 Mar 2025 10:00:00 +0000 https://www.twiniversity.com/?p=187906 If your twinnies were born early, it might feel stressful trying to find clothes that actually fit them (so they stay warm and snug). So we’re sharing tips on where to find the best preemie baby clothes for your little ones! One of the joys of twin parenthood is having the chance to buy those cute little onesies and imagining your newborn twinnies wearing them. Like the identical matching outfits (cause they’re twins after all) or in the classic pairs ( ketchup and mustard, thing 1 thing 2, etc).  And of course, then posing for those sweet pictures.  Your family can’t resist the pull too!  Even before your twinnies arrive, you’ve got a nice stash of fun pajamas, coordinating outfits, and more.   And it’s all well and good until your babies come super early, and you’ve got to figure out what on Earth to dress them in. Because even those newborn onesies will drown your little preemies.  My twins were born just in time for Christmas and weighed under 5lbs. My MIL had bought them each a Santa onesie sack which was so sweet. Both those onesies were huge!  So, I can attest that there’s definitely quite a difference between preemie and newborn sizes.   But unfortunately, lots of in-person retail stores don’t carry that many preemie sizes if any at all). And if you happen to find a stray preemie outfit, will they have another for the second twin?   It’s a bit frazzling not being able to find the right size for your tiny twinnies. Especially since the chances of a multiple birth being earlier than scheduled is much higher than a singleton.  That’s why we want to make sure you’re equipped with all the insights on where to find the best preemie clothes! But first, what is a preemie size?   As you’ve likely experienced even with your own adult clothing, not all brands are sized equally.  When it comes to preemie baby clothes, the sizing is based on weight and length. But each brand uses slightly different cutoff thresholds for what they consider to be “preemie size.”  If you want to see for yourself, Dreft has a list of common baby clothing brands with their sizing parameters charted out. Most of the charts say preemie size is up to 5 lbs (up to 17”), whereas newborn size is between 5-8 lbs (up to 20”).  You’ll notice some brands even have preemie sizing go up to 6 lbs.   And some preemie baby clothes brands even have sizes that go below preemie size. These are teeny preemie (up to 4 pounds) and micro preemie (up to 3 pounds).  What if my twins are in the NICU? If your babies spend time in the NICU, it’s a good idea to ask the nurses what they need as far as clothing goes. Depending on your babies’ particular medical needs, their medical team may have preferences and guidelines for how you dress them.  Being hooked up to all those wires and a breathing or feeding tube can definitely make dressing your preemie twinnies more challenging (but not impossible!).  Also, many NICUs have a stash of preemie clothes that they will let your twinnies use free of charge. So depending on the length of your stay, you might not even need to go out and buy preemie clothes.  My personal NICU experience as a mom to preemies was “don’t bring anything,” which was nice. Our hospital clothed them, bathed them, and their NICU pods were heated.   So again, definitely ask your NICU nurses what clothing would be helpful logistically. Then you can save money on what preemie baby clothes you buy and go with only what you really need.   And take a look at the two websites below for preemie clothes that are made with NICU babies in mind! Best preemie clothes for NICU babies 1. Perfectly Preemie This site is dedicated to preemie baby clothes, and you can filter by size or style, which is super helpful!  Most of the time, your NICU babies will have monitors on them. So if your hospital requires you to provide clothes, it’s best to have something with more flexibility than a single zip up.   What’s also great about Perfectly Preemie, is they also have sizes smaller than preemie: micro and teeny, each with weight limits next to the names.   2. Preemie Store Another online retailer with the best preemie clothes is Preemie Store. This e-commerce shop sells multiple different preemie clothing brands (including Perfectly Preemie). Since preemies are their specialty, they have micro and teeny options with plenty of options suitable for the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) and PICU (pediatric intensive care unit). Outside of these NICU preemie stores (which are still a great option for non-NICU preemies), there are more mainstream brands that have preemie baby clothes too. Mainstream brands with preemie sizes 1. Carters:  When searching on Carter’s actual brand site, you can apply filters for “preemie” to sort for that specific size.  Personally, I found zippers to be easier than snaps, especially when you’re bleary eyed at 2:00am and not knowing if you’re placing the diaper the right way on.  We’ve definitely woken up a few mornings with the buttons not quite lining up (whoops!).   And Carter’s has sleep & play outfits with a 2-way zipper, which is always a win!  They even have a dedicated section for NICU-friendly preemie baby clothes. 2. Gerber:  Of all the baby branding, Gerber is a household staple. They have a variety of options for preemie baby clothes, along with accessories fitting preemies. Did I mention occasional sales?   3. Little Me You’ll notice many of the kids in your neighborhood or circle will wear the same big name brands. But if you want to stand out from the crowd with something more ‘boutique,’ Little Me has an array of preemie sizes. 4. Monica + Andy Another great brand you’ll see around is Monica + Andy. Their clothes are super cute and they have preemie options for a… Continue Reading Best Preemie Clothes for Your Twin Newborns

Noise-Canceling Headphones for Babies: Why They’re a Must https://www.twiniversity.com/noise-canceling-headphones-for-babies/ Thu, 21 Nov 2024 11:00:00 +0000 https://www.twiniversity.com/?p=186481 An often overlooked aspect of children’s health is hearing and noise. In this article, you’ll learn why noise-reducing headphones are helpful for your baby’s auditory health. And we’ve also got you covered with a round-up of recommendations! This example will date me, but when I see headphones on infants and babies, it reminds me of the scene from Mr. Holland’s Opus when the mom didn’t cover up the child’s ear during a parade which resulted in deafening her child. A traumatic scene and one I seem to never forget, especially now as a mama.   Sure, you don’t have to watch the movie to understand what a loud parade feels like for an adult. But imagine that same overwhelming noise as an infant. What damage can be done? Keep reading, and you’ll learn all about what sound levels are appropriate for babies as well as recommendations for protective ear wear to keep them safe. How loud is “too loud” for babies and kids?  According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, “Noise above 70 decibels (dB) over prolonged periods may start to damage hearing. Noise above 120 dB, such as from a blast or fireworks, can cause immediate, irreversible harm.”  And the Royal National Institute for Deaf People claims that just 15 minutes of exposure to noise averaging 100 dB can cause hearing damage.  Now let’s consider this in terms of everyday noises in our baby’s environment. Think of the well-meaning but often noisy toys that we give to our babies. Some studies (like this one) have found these toys had sounds going as high as 100 decibels!  This is very much Googleable and if you search “baby toys with sounds over 100 decibels,” the answers will surprise you. Noises are everywhere, and when you see words like “irreversible harm,” it puts into perspective how important it is to protect your babies’ ears. In case you’re like me and need concrete examples, here’s 70 decibels is the sound of a washing machine or a dishwasher!  Wild!  Out of curiosity, I searched 100 decibels. That’s pretty much the noise level of a nightclub.  If this information is new to you, rest assured, there’s no need to panic. Because thankfully, we have technology nowadays that can help reduce intense noise when needed. So let’s get into how noise-canceling headphones can help. How can noise-canceling headphones help? Hearing loss caused by loud noises usually begins with damage to the hair cells inside the inner ear. These sensory cells are what convert sound energy into signals that our brain recognizes as sound.  Of course, we may not always have the ability to “turn off” certain sounds in our environment for our little ones. So that’s why noise-canceling or noise-reducing headphones are helpful. They work by limiting the amount of sound that penetrates the inner ear.  In case you’re wondering: Why not just use earplugs? Ear plugs are a good option for adults to reduce environmental sounds. But since they’re so small, there’s a choking risk involved with babies and young children.  So if you find yourself going to a noisy event like a wedding, a firework show, a sporting event, or flying on a plane, definitely consider using headphones!  As always, it’s wise to check with your primary care physician before introducing your child to loud noises. And without further ado, let’s take a look at some popular, cost-friendly ear protection options out there. You’ll notice that the age range for earmuffs varies by brand. Some are 0-18 months, while others have designs that go up to 4 years in age.   Best noise-canceling headphones for babies and young kids 1. Alpine Muffy Baby Ear Protection At a glance: Alpine Muffy Baby Ear Protection comes in 5 different colors, and the headband is anti-slip and adjustable to fit around your babies’ head, no matter their size.  2. Mumba Baby Ear Protection Noise Canceling Headphones At a glance: The Mumba Baby Ear Protection looks more like a traditional headphone without the cord.  It comes in a variety of different colors, and many of the reviews share that their baby slept through the noise that was surrounding them.  One review did mention the padding to be more plastic-like. And these noise canceling-headphones go over the fontanel (the soft spot on your infant’s head). So if that is a concern for you, consult your pediatrician or opt for headphones with a band around the head instead.  3. Nuby Soft Sounds Earmuffs  At a glance: These Nuby Soft Earmuffs have a smaller age range than most earmuffs out there, so that’s something to think about. Like other brands, these also come in a variety of colors, so you can easily differentiate which twin has which set of earmuffs.   Since the age range is shorter, if your baby has a larger head circumference, there’s a chance they won’t fit even with the adjustable band (according to some of the reviews).   4. Schallwerk Ear Defender Mini+ At a glance: The Schallwerk Ear Defender Mini+ comes in fun colors and fun animal prints too. And even though the headphones are ranged for 2 and under, many reviews mention their older children still being able to fit into them. 5. Banz Bubzee Baby Earmuffs At a glance: Banz Bubzee Baby Earmuffs has a headband design that’s adjustable based on the growth of your child. Customer reviews mention that they do fit larger head circumferences well. This brand also has earmuffs designed for older children, too.   A handful of reviews do mention concerns with the headband moving when the baby moves and the material around the ear not being very breathable.   Final thoughts on noise-canceling headphones for babies Noise-reducing headphones and earmuffs are a great way to protect little ears from the loud noises we encounter.  Before making a final decision about which noise-canceling headphones to go with, consider: Also, be sure to ask your pediatrician about their take on noise-canceling headphones. And at the end of the day, trust that you are making the… Continue Reading Noise-Canceling Headphones for Babies: Why They’re a Must

Double Bottle Warmer vs. Single Bottle Warmer for Twins? https://www.twiniversity.com/double-bottle-warmer-vs-single-bottle-warmer/ Tue, 12 Nov 2024 11:00:00 +0000 https://www.twiniversity.com/?p=186357 When it comes to feeding your twins, having a bottle warmer can be super helpful. Read on for our honest thoughts about whether to opt for a single bottle warmer or a double bottle warmer! On the hunt for gadgets that will help you when your two bundles of joy arrive? You’ve likely heard of (or already stocked up on) a double nursing pillow and a double stroller. But what about a double bottle warmer?   If you’re like me, you may not have realized such a bottle warmer even existed until right now. (And my twins are a few years past the bottle-feeding years.)   Reflecting back though, I feel like I absolutely could’ve used a double bottle warmer. My twins were on the same feeding schedule and the same nap schedule because the synchronization made planning the day easier for mom and dad.  But when my twinnies were hungry…they were HUNGRY.  We couldn’t get the bottles warmed up fast enough, and we had a single warmer which took 2 to 3 minutes to warm one bottle.  Those 6 minutes felt like an eternity with two crying babies in the background. And then there’s the guilt of deciding which baby would get the bottle that was warmed up first. Of course, I eventually learned the warm water hack (thanks to my pediatrician).  So while one bottle was being warmed in the bottle warmer, I would stick the other bottle in a cup of water that I warmed in the microwave. So in a way, I guess I had created my own makeshift “double” bottle warmer.   But while this water hack sometimes worked in a pinch, it still took 1-2 minutes to get the water warm enough and then another 3-5 minutes to actually warm the bottle. And then I would still have to turn the bottle every now and again so the heat was evenly distributed.   Fed up with all the effort it took to heat two baby bottles multiple times a day, we eventually switched to a BabyBrezza formula dispenser. But what I wouldn’t give to go back and make those early days of bottle warming just a tad easier! So let’s get into everything you need to know before deciding on a bottle warmer that’s right for you and your twinnies. What is a bottle warmer? And why would you need one? First, let’s get clear on why bottle warmers even exist. Bottle warmers are small appliances that gently warm bottles of milk or formula using steam or hot water. They’re helpful for thawing or warming breastmilk and formula to a safe temperature for babies to drink.  Since bottle warmers have a gradual heating function, they preserve the nutrients in breastmilk and formula. This is super important because if the temperature rises over 104 degrees Fahrenheit, you risk damaging the nutritional properties of the milk. Now, why is a bottle warmer necessary? Can’t I just use a microwave?  Great question. And the simple answer is that microwaving bottles is not safe. Here’s what the FDA says on the matter: Heating breast milk or infant formula in the microwave is not recommended. Studies have shown that microwaves heat baby’s milk and formula unevenly. This results in “hot spots” that can scald a baby’s mouth and throat.   Yikes!!! Definitely not worth the risk!  Maybe you’re also wondering this: can’t I simply feed my twins milk or formula that’s cold?  And the answer to that is you totally can. But the preference for milk/formula temperature really depends on each baby. It’s possible that your baby will refuse to drink from a cold bottle entirely.  On top of that, a small study showed that preterm infants especially are likely to feed better when the temperature is as close as possible to that of breastmilk that was freshly expressed.  So let’s say you’re sold on getting a bottle warmer now. What are the best options for bottle warmers for feeding twins? Let’s dig into that next. Double bottle warmer vs. single bottle warmer Here’s a quick look at some basic pros and cons you’ll want to consider before choosing between a double bottle warmer and a single bottle warmer. Factor Single vs. double bottle warmer Cost The price doesn’t vary all that much. You can expect to pay anywhere from about $20 to $100+ depending on the brand you choose. Efficiency A double bottle warmer allows you to heat up two bottles at the same time. Space Double bottle warmers are likely to take up a little extra space, and they may not be portable. So how do you know the right choice for you when it comes to a single vs. double bottle warmer? It really comes down to your unique situation and your overall plan for feeding your twins. Here are some factors you’ll want to consider when choosing a bottle warmer: Regardless of where you land, keep reading for some single and double bottle warmers we recommend. Double bottle warmer options If you’ve got multiple hungry infants screaming in the background (or will in the near future), a double bottle warmer is a very practical option! (Honestly, if I could go back in time, I would have swapped my single warmer for a double bottle warmer).  BellaBaby Double Bottle Warmer With the BellaBaby Double Bottle Warmer, you can heat up two 5-oz bottles in just 3 minutes or two 7-oz bottles in 5 minutes. This warmer can defrost breastmilk as well as heat up formula or baby food. It also allows you to adjust the setting based on the material (silicone, glass, plastic) so that the temperature is just-right. EVLA Baby Bottle Warmer The EVLA Baby Bottle Warmer is multifunctional with the ability to not only defrost milk and warm food jars but also sanitize. It even has a shut-off function so your milk or food doesn’t overheat (perfect for a twin parent whose attention is all over the place). Still on the fence between a double bottle warmer… Continue Reading Double Bottle Warmer vs. Single Bottle Warmer for Twins?

Why Every Twin Family Should Invest in a Single Stroller https://www.twiniversity.com/single-stroller-for-twins/ Wed, 17 Apr 2024 15:23:27 +0000 https://www.twiniversity.com/?p=178949 Twin families are always looking for ways to make life a little bit easier! Having a single stroller for your twins might do the trick! Keep reading to discover all the pros of having a single stroller for double kids! Plus, enter to win TWO Ergobaby Metro+ Single Strollers for your family! Giveaway ends 04/21/24. Twins and the word DOUBLE are synonymous. This is no different when considering the type of stroller you will need for your twins. Two babies means you will need a double stroller, right? But maybe you should be considering a single stroller. It sounds strange, I know! Why would anyone with TWO babies buy a stroller that only fits one? Keep reading because we’ve got some really good reasons why you should consider a single stroller. Why a single stroller works for a twin family Wearing one When you’re out and about alone with your twins, wearing one in a carrier while the other is in a single stroller can be a lifesaver. Managing two babies but only one stroller can feel more manageable, especially in busy or tight spaces. Singleton Activities  When you only need to bring one twin along, using a single stroller is ideal. It’s lightweight, easy to maneuver, and allows you to navigate through tight spaces with ease. This can be particularly helpful during doctor visits, where you might need to move quickly or negotiate narrow hallways. Having a single stroller for the “singleton” occasions will make your outings much easier and more manageable. Divide and Conquer  Using two single strollers when you and your spouse are out together with your twins is a smart move. It gives each of you the freedom to handle one stroller, making it easier to navigate crowded places and attend to each twin’s needs. It also allows parents to divide and conquer errands and tasks, making everyday outings more manageable. Dividing tasks this way can be less overwhelming for each parent, as they can focus on one child’s needs at a time, making outings with twins smoother and more enjoyable for everyone. Okay, now that you are thinking about all the benefits of a single stroller for your “double” children, let me introduce you to the Ergobaby Metro+ single stroller.  The Ergobaby Metro+ stroller offers the convenience and flexibility that singleton families experience daily: versatility, convenience, and just less stuff! Four features that make the Ergobaby Metro+ a must-have single stroller: Versatility The Ergobaby Metro+ is designed to be compact and lightweight, making it perfect for quick outings with just one of your twins. Whether you’re running errands or taking one twin for a check-up, having a single stroller allows you to easily navigate tight spaces and crowded areas without the bulk of a double stroller. Travel-Friendly Traveling with twins can be challenging, but the Ergobaby Metro+ makes it easier. Its compact size and easy compact fold make it ideal for travel. You can easily stow it in the trunk of your car or carry it onto a plane and stow it in the overhead bins. The Metro+ weighs only 16.9 lbs, so getting it into the overhead bin will not be a problem! Convenience Sometimes, a double stroller may be too bulky or cumbersome to use. A single stroller like the Ergobaby Metro+ allows you to grab and go quickly when you’re in a hurry or only need to take one child out. It’s also great for situations where a double stroller might be impractical, such as navigating through crowded spaces or public transportation. Comfort The Ergobaby Metro+ is designed with your twins’ comfort in mind. It features a near-flat recline, adjustable leg rest, extra-padded seat, and large, shock-absorbing tires for a smooth ride. The Metro+ was also designed with parental comfort in mind. It has an adjustable handlebar and one-hand fold and can be used from day one. It continues to grow with your twins through 4 years of age.  Accessories If these features aren’t enough, the Metro+ also has some great accessories (for additional purchase). Grab a cup holder or two and car seat adaptors (compatible with select Cybex®, Nuna®, BeSafe®, or Maxi Cosi® Group 0/0+ Infant Car Seats). When the twins get bigger, attach the ride-along board, and both twins get to “ride.” Check out all the available accessories here.  Real MoM Review We were given the opportunity to test out the Ergobaby Metro+ Stroller and asked one of our twin MoM squad members to try it out and give us her honest opinion. Emilee, a mom of twins plus one, had this to say about the Metro+ Stroller: ”After opening the box, I was shocked there was absolutely no assembly. I was also surprised at how compact it was; it was very small, lightweight, and easy to carry when folded. It’s also easy to fold, which makes it convenient for a baby. I can even do it one-handed while holding my baby! Unfolding took me a few tries, but once I got that figured out, it was smooth. The handlebar is also adjustable, so I don’t feel like I’m reaching down like other strollers. The fabric is soft and breathable. I love the extra padding for him. Another huge win is that the cover is machine washable. Always a plus. The harness was easy to clip and unclip. I knew my baby was safe and secure. I love that the stroller reclines almost flat so my baby can nap comfortably. It’s easy to adjust as well.  The overall design is awesome. It’s the perfect get-up-and-go stroller, and I think it’s great for everyday adventures or traveling on a plane. It’s very smooth and easy to use. It’s exciting that there are so many accessories you can add! I can’t wait to try out the cup holder and support bar. I would definitely purchase this stroller again and suggest it to any mom friend who needs an easy-to-use super compact stroller.”  If you haven’t considered a single stroller for your… Continue Reading Why Every Twin Family Should Invest in a Single Stroller

Best Playpen for Twins https://www.twiniversity.com/playpen-for-twins/ Tue, 12 Mar 2024 10:30:00 +0000 https://www.twiniversity.com/?p=177728 If you grew up in the ‘90s like me, you grew up watching Rugrats and think to yourself, wow! That confined space is great (Even though Tommy Pickles somehow always got out)! Playpens are a parent’s solution to create a safe environment for their baby while containing them in a singular spot. While supervision is still required, you can do some chores while your twins joyfully play in their own space. Playpens are also great for outside! Whether it’s the beach or your own backyard, there is a perfect playpen for your twins. There are so many options, so what is the best playpen for twins? HARPPA Baby Gate Playpen ($$) Design your ideal play space with the HARPPa playpen. Its customizable design makes it versatile for any size space! This playpen is lightweight and comes with two bassinets, a carry bag, and wheels. The bassinet portion has a weight limit of 15 lbs. per bassinet, but the playard has no weight limit, so you will be able to use it for as long as you see fit. Pros It’s very easy to set up and it’s just the right size. Bigger than your typical playpen but not so large that it takes up your whole room. Plus, the wood makes it a little bit more stylish, since it might become the focal point of your living space! Cons The HARPPA Baby Gate Playpen does have potential size limitations especially for older or more active children. Due to the wood design and size of this playpen the assembly is more challenging than other playpens. Pop ‘N Go Playpen ($) Adventure awaits with this portable indoor and outdoor playpen. It’s lightweight, bug-free, and features UV protection. It also has a fun pop-up design and travel bag, perfect for playtime on the go. Pros Easy to assemble and break down. Very compact and comes with a UV shade cover to use when outdoors. Cons The bottom of the playpen is flimsy (a playmat can be purchased separately). It is harder to pop open than it seems. Joovy Room2 ($$) The Joovy Room2 features over 10 square feet of space, making it one of the largest playpens available. It’s an excellent option for keeping your twinnies entertained and contained. Pros This playpen is large and spacious, with plenty of room for two babies. It meets or exceeds safety standards, providing a secure environment for your child to play in. The Room2 has mesh sides, giving it a 360-degree view, so you can always see your babies, and they can always see you. It includes a removable and machine-washable fitted sheet for extra comfort. Cons Initial assembly of the playpen can be challenging. Due to its size and durability, the Joovy Room2 can be heavy and difficult to move around, especially when folded. Plus, it is a higher price point than some other playpens. Evenflo Versatile Play Space ($) The Evenflo Versatile Play Space is a popular choice for parents looking for a flexible and adjustable play area for their children. It is a freestanding gate that can be used as a playpen, room divider, or barrier to keep your child safe and contained. Pros The Evenflo Versatile Play Space can be configured into different shapes and sizes to fit your space and needs. It is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, is easy to set up, and does not require any tools. Plus, it is easy to clean, with smooth surfaces that can be wiped down with a damp cloth. Cons While versatile, the play space may not provide enough room for older or more active children to play comfortably. The Evenflo Play Space is lower than some other playpens, which could be a concern for parents of taller children. Baby Trend Lil’ Snooze Deluxe III for Twins Playard ($$) The Baby Trend Lil’ Snooze Deluxe III features two removable bassinets with canopies and a large storage basket for baby essentials. The playard itself offers a spacious play area for when your babies outgrow the bassinets. Pros This playard includes two removable full bassinets that allow it to convert to a full-size playard, a flip-over changing table, and a deluxe parent organizer to hold all of the essentials. Cons While spacious, the playard may be too large for some living spaces. Bottom is not removable, so must be spot cleaned. Choosing the best playpen for twins involves considering factors such as safety, convenience, versatility, and budget. Ultimately, it’s what fits your lifestyle and house, but any of these playpens would be a great choice for twins.

Best Humidifier for Baby and Beyond https://www.twiniversity.com/best-humidifier-for-baby-and-beyond/ Tue, 31 Oct 2023 10:30:00 +0000 https://www.twiniversity.com/?p=172914 Winter is coming… and so is the dry air for most parts of the United States, especially when your furnace kicks on. Time to pull out the good ol’ humidifier! Is it time for a new one, or even just a second one (this is one of those items you should have two of when you have twins)? Check out our list of the best humidifiers for baby and beyond! All content on this website, including medical opinions and any other health-related information, is for informational purposes only and should not be considered to be a specific diagnosis or treatment plan for any individual situation. Use of this site and the information contained herein does not create a doctor-patient relationship. Always seek the direct advice of your own doctor in connection with any questions or issues you may have regarding your own health or the health of others. Humidifiers are an invaluable tool during those dry winter months. By increasing the moisture in the air, humidifiers can help with dry skin, sore throats, allergies, and asthma. My twin B has eczema, and adding a humidifier has helped his skin from breaking out into itchy, red spots. They also help reduce static electricity and keep furniture and electronics from drying out (WHAT!?!) Knowing all this, what’s the best humidifier for baby versus the best humidifier for the whole house? Do you want cool air or warm air? When our twins were infants, we started with one version and then upgraded to something bigger when they were a little older. We also added a home humidifier that is attached to the furnace and thermostat. When shopping for a humidifier, there are a few things to consider. First, the size of the space you need to cover. A small bedroom or nursery may only require a personal humidifier, while larger rooms will need something bigger with more coverage. Second, decide if you want a cool mist or warm mist humidifier (or both). Third, decide what type of humidifier you want. Ultrasonic (which creates a mist from a vibrating metal diaphragm) and evaporative (which uses a fan to blow air through a soaked wick filter) are the two main types. Each has its own benefits, so consider which one will work best for your needs. Size of Humidifier When choosing the right size of humidifier for your family, you should consider the size of your home and the number of people who will be using it. Personal Humidifier When it comes to buying a personal humidifier, size is an important factor to consider. Generally speaking, the larger the room or space you’re trying to humidify, the larger the unit you should buy. For a single room or office, a basic small-sized portable humidifier may suffice. However, if you’re hoping to humidify more than one room or an entire home, then you may want to look into larger-sized models. Furnace Humidifiers Furnace humidifiers attach to your home’s HVAC equipment. This option is pricier than the portable ones listed below, but if you have the budget and would prefer to have moisture pumped into the entire house, maybe this is the option for you. Talk to your local HVAC Tech about adding this to your furnace. Cool Mist Humidifier vs Warm Mist Humidifier There are benefits for both types of humidifiers. Both offer the benefits of moisture in the room. Cool Mist  Warm Mist  Ultrasonic Humidifier or Evaporative Humidifier The two main types of humidifiers are ultrasonic and evaporative. Each has its own unique benefits and drawbacks that should be weighed carefully before selecting the right one for your home. Ultrasonic Humidifier Ultrasonic humidifiers use high-frequency sound vibrations to turn water into a fine mist that is dispersed into the air. They are usually quieter than evaporative models, and they are also more energy-efficient. However, because they rely on an ultrasonic element to disperse the mist, they may require more maintenance than other types of humidifiers. Pros: Ultrasonic is easy to use, easy to clean, and you don’t have a filter to change.  It also is very quiet. Cons: Their mechanism to disperse water can also disperse minerals and contaminates.  Need to clean very frequently or the benefits of having a humidifier go right out the window cause you’re allowing bacteria to be dispersed.  Bacteria love moist environments. Because Ultrasonic humidifiers don’t have a filter, the EPA recommends using distilled water in ultrasonic humidifiers and cleaning it thoroughly and regularly (around every 3 days). Evaporative Humidifier Evaporative humidifiers use a fan to draw in air, which then passes through a damp pad or wick. The air picks up moisture from the pad and disperses it into the room. These models are more affordable than ultrasonic humidifiers and require less maintenance, but they can be noisier and may not be as energy-efficient. Pros: The filter inside does reduce the mineral dust released. Cons: Although the filter is great in reducing the mineral dust released from the water, you’ll need to change the filter regularly (around 1-3 months, depending on usage and manufacturer).  The built-in fan can also be loud. Even with its filter, you’ll need to clean evaporative filters regularly. What Is the Best Water to Use in a Humidifier? There are several options when it comes to the type of water you can use in a humidifier. The best water to use is clean, filtered water because it will help prevent minerals and other contaminants from accumulating in the reservoir or filter of the device. This is especially important if you plan on using the humidifier for extended periods of time. Distilled water, which has been purified and had its impurities removed, is also a good choice for humidifiers. However, it can be expensive and may need to be purchased from a store. Tap water should be avoided because it contains minerals, chemicals, and other contaminants that can build up in the device over time. If you choose to use tap water, make sure you clean your humidifier often to… Continue Reading Best Humidifier for Baby and Beyond
